Southland Land Use Request

The Shelby Community Improvement Corporation periodically receives requests from organizations, businesses, and community groups interested in using CIC-owned property for events and activities.

To help the CIC evaluate each request, applicants must complete and submit the Shelby CIC Land Use Request Form with all required supporting documentation.

About the Southlands Area

The Southlands area includes the former Skiles Field and former Central Elementary and Middle School sites in the heart of downtown Shelby.

The property is bordered by Gamble Street to the west, High School Avenue to the east, Main Street to the north, and Tucker Avenue to the south.

Because the Southlands area includes multiple parcels and is located near other public and privately owned properties, applicants must clearly identify the specific property requested for use. Applications should also distinguish between activities occurring on CIC-owned property and activities occurring on adjacent City, park district, school, or other property.

Application Requirements

Submit a completed Land Use Request Form with:

  • Event details, dates, times, and estimated attendance

  • A site map showing activities, parking, vendors, tents, and access points

  • Proof of event liability insurance

  • Any other relevant supporting information

Review Process

Requests are reviewed by the CIC Board at its regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings. Applicants should submit requests well in advance of the proposed event date.

Submitting a request does not guarantee approval. The CIC may approve, deny, or approve a request with conditions.

Approved applicants are responsible for following all requirements and returning the property to its original condition.
